VOUGINI
BY Jacqueline Eviston-Putsch
I’m a multicultural creative of Irish, German and Canadian descent, currently based in Berlin. Working predominately with pen and paper, my art is a meditative practice. I create using my mind’s eye, depicting my internal world though intricate lines: delicate, playful and feminine and sometimes
a bit naughty.
My art draws heavily from my Irish heritage and the tradition of Celtic art. This influence is seen in the use of intricate spirals, flowing lines, and abstract forms. These elements symbolize interconnectedness, personal growth, and the cyclical nature of life. The detailed line work reflects the complexity of Celtic knotwork, while the organic shapes connect human experience with the natural world. Through these influences, my art bridges past and present, using cultural heritage to explore modern identity and personal themes.

Through my art, I aim to convey that while masks can hide us, they are also a part of our identity. We all have a light and a shadow, recognizing these elements within ourselves is a step towards authentic self-expression and liberation.
This piece is a part of my current collection, exhibiting at the Gallerie Treppenhaus, Germany and explores the layers or ‘masks’ of human nature and a reflection of my introspective journey on the various elements and masks that form my identity.

‘Bicycle Face’ is a conecptual piece that reaches beyond the frame. A mirror placed right across invites the viewer to ponder what is reality or perception (or decpetion). The viewer is then invited to look at their own reflection. On the mirror, it says ‘What mask are you wearing?’
This prompts the viewer to deliberate on their own masks and layers, and consider what they might be hiding from the world.
